How to clean the stainless steel parts of your boa

How to clean the stainless steel parts of your boat

Cleaning the stainless steel parts of our boat is a very important part of its maintenance. However, a more important role is played if we have chosen the right type of stainless steel, i.e. 304 or 316.

It is a fact that the stainless steel parts on our boat when they are cleaned and polished give it another better appearance.

Although a damage can be caused by a wrong installation, let's look at how we can clean-maintain the stainless parts on our boat properly without causing further damage.

• It is extremely important that every 7-10 years we inspect the stainless parts on our boat for cracks or breaks, assuming everything is working properly to avoid further problems. If we find any damage, we should repair it immediately because it is important that everything works properly.

• The type of cleaner we choose also plays an important role. In general, we should avoid:

1. Strong cleaners which are very acidic.

2. Cleaners that have an alkaline base.

3. Products containing ammonia or chlorine.

4. High strength soap.

Also of utmost importance is the regular cleaning of our boat. Ideally it should be cleaned every time it is used because after a trip the rust-prone parts should remain clean.

More generally, even if there is no trip in between, we should clean the stainless parts on our boat very regularly. Ideally, it should be a cleaning routine that we should follow systematically.

The best way to achieve this is with a sponge or soft cloth. This helps to clean the salt crystals without damaging the surface of the material being cleaned.

But if it is more stubborn stains or areas with rust, then it would be good to use a toothbrush or a general purpose brush to clean that point.
